The picturebook "The Father's Suitcase" was started in 2024. At that time, I was fortunate enough to participate in a workshop that held by National Human Rights Museum. And I had chance to come into contact with many historical fragments and scars left by the White Terror period. After reading countless oral histories and watching many related documentary works, my heart was filled with deep feelings.

After that, I chosed to depict the stories of those families who suffered during the White Terror, ​​in a a gentler, more child-friendly approach. Against that backdrop, many who finally returned from suffering, though physically present, felt their hearts trapped. For decades, parents and children were separated by an invisible wall, becoming the most familiar strangers in each other's lives. The secret agents who frequently came to interrogate them became an inescapable shadow, making fear and anxiety a daily occurrence in the home.

In this picturebook, I drew a tightly closed suitcase.
For me, it was more than just a suitcase; it symbolized the taboo that was difficult to touch within the suffering families, and the enormous, insurmountable chasm between the two generations.

The emotions extracted from true historical records reveal the invisible wounds left by political violence, and giving a voice to the victims and their families who were forced to remain silent.  I hope to accompany and comfort those wounded souls. And through this picturebook, to lead everyone into that history, to understand the scars that still ache in our society.
